How many pavers do I need?

Enter your patio or walkway dimensions and the size of one paver. The calculator divides the area by a single paver's face area, adds 10% for cuts and breakage, and rounds up to whole pavers — the count works the same for concrete, brick and stone pavers.

It also estimates what goes underneath: a 1-inch bedding layer of paver sand and 4 inches of compacted gravel base, both as tonnage. Ordering the bedding layer separately? Use the sand calculator.

Formula & methodology

pavers = patio ft² ÷ (paver L in × paver W in ÷ 144), + 10% waste

One paver's face area is converted from square inches to square feet (÷ 144). The 10% allowance covers edge cuts; diagonal and herringbone patterns can need 15%.

All constants are published on the material reference; the full model is on the methodology page.
